It is a quick visit. Easy to park and a short walk around the tomb. It is nothing fancy, just some plaques and a map that show the setup before the battle. They could really have done much more here if they wanted to, there is space and history. Don't expect to much, and if you do not know what it is about you might want to read up before you visit.

Must visit site if you are in Marathon. So much historical significance especially if you have ran a marathon. This was what it was all about. Pheidippides ran back to Athens to inform them of their victory in battle. The burial site of 192 Athenians who were killed during the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. Sadly, the park grounds are not very well kept and not enough has been done to dedicate this place to the famous battle. Closed on Monday.

Unfortunately there was not a lot of information of the imoortant battle between the Athenians and the Persians. However, the staff was friendly and the entrance for the site also allows you to visit the Marathon Museum which is fantastic.

The tomb of Marathon, with a height of 10 meters and a diameter of 50, was created after the battle of the Athenians with the Persians. The tomb is the tombs of the 192 Athenian Marathon fighters, where the remains left after the cremation were buried. A historical place one hour from Athens that deserves a visit!

If you want to see a big hill, this is the place to go. There isnt much else around, but the site does have plenty of information and it's also a beautiful park. I hear its particularly beautiful in spring!

It looks plain, which underlines the occasion it commemorates: an important battle in Ancient Greece that changed the course of history (for better or worse, it's not the point). The strategic genius of general Miltiades stopped a much stronger Persian army. Worth visiting.
