Kastraki Dam is an impresive dam on the Achelous River near the village of Kastraki and 20 km southwest to the remarkable Kremasti Dam. The project was completed in 1969 and it was made for three purposes: 1. Flood prevention 2. Irrigation of the plain of Arta & 3. Production of electricity for the wider region The power plant complex is comprised of 4 turbine units and it has a total production capacity of 320mw (4*80). The dam is 96 meters high and 547 meters long and its construction created the artificial lake of Kastraki, a beautiful, green lake with tranquil waters and lush banks. Unfortunatelly, the dam is closed for visitors, so it is not possible to cross from one side to the other.
