Stratos Dam is located on Acheloos River, 9 km northwest of Agrinio and 1.5 km east to the village Stratos. The dam was constructed between 1981 and 1989 as a hydroelectric power plant and it contains 4 turbines that generates total157 MW. Its height is 26 m and its length 1.9 km, and it is the longest dam in Greece. The artificial lake Stratos, created by the Dam, is a nice natural landscape and gives a unique beauty to the area! There are four more dams upstream the Acheloos River: Kastraki Dam, Kremasta Dam, Sykia Dam and Mesochora Dam, and they all together produce 10% of the country's annual electricity production. The dam is fenced on both sides and cannot be traveled to its length, but if you want to experience the beauty of the lake, you can cross the lake over the nice iron bridge - Matsuki, 4 km north to the dam.
