A lovely small museum that houses the modern history of Athens. There are two internally connected buildings. The older one was built in 1833 and it was used as the home of king Otto when he arrived at Athens (1836 - 1843). The second building was built in 1859. You need a guided tour to fully understand and enjoy it. Highly recommended for Greeks.

Somewhat misnamed, this house-museum once served as the residence of King Otto; its history is not immediately obvious, since there are virtually no didactic materials except in the last room, which has some news clippings in German. It might nevertheless be worth a short visit, particularly for a French painting in the first room (on permanent loan from Chartres) which depicts the city before the Venetian destruction of the Parthenon.

Interesting museum of the modern history of Athens but if you are struggling for time then there are even better museums in Athens.

Amuseum with lots of character and history. A small part of the first King of Greece Otto (1832) and his wife Amalia.

Worst city museum I've ever been. There are a lot of 19th century old chairs, some paintings with the acropolis and nothing really interesting. I learn nothing about the city of Athens from this museum. Nothing about the philosophers, or the evolution of the city through the time. Only some random pictures and paintings. The interactive map on the first floor had no audio, so the whole thing was useless. For the price (5) it was quite a scam.

That's a lovely museum although it still needs to modernise some elements. It's very important for the history of the city and indeed modern Greece. Antonis, was a great guide, with great perspective of history and the museum's collection. Some feedback would be to take care of cleaning elements like rugs (or indeed the rug in the room of the King), better care in labelling around and creating a better walk around and having a more up to date shop.

A small museum charged 6 euro but mainly on old paintings, some related to old Athens and old furniture items showing the 18th or 19th century Athens city life. Lighting and presentations are difficult for most people.
