This is a fantastic place to learn about the Cretan way of life and the history of the island. The lady who works here is very knowledgeable and helpful as well as incredibly helpful! The artefacts on view are amazing and well laid out. The café serves a good variety of drinks at good, fair prices. There is a beach that is accessible from the back of the museum and the prices of parasol and sunlounger hire are very reasonable! Definitely well worth a visit!

We are absolutely fascinated by this amazing place! We have travelled all over the world, but we've never seen a place/museum like this; done with so much love, soul, attention to detail, projecting a whole vast history and cultural heritage of an island and its people in such a small, yet rich place. We are deeply touched and inspired by the initiative of the founder - Mr. Marakakis - to have created such an extraordinary and important monument of the heritage of his ancestors, and make sure it is passed onto generations of locals and visitors. This is patriotism at its very vest, something we should all worship and learn from. BRAVO! is the best thing we can say to the founder, to all the people who have helped and invested to build this place, and to all of those who keep preserving it. Good luck and keep going! And to all of you who haven't been her yet - PLEASE VISIT, YOU WILL LOVE IT! And make sure to get the audio guide as well, it was so informative and useful! You will need 2 hours for sure if you want to watch the documentary and observe everything in detail, which we definitely recommend. We can't wait to come here again! Lana & Nastassia
The best museum on the island, highly recommended for everyone. The museum has indoor and outdoor exhibitions with a lots of very interesting facts about the past, the owners, the works, the museum itself and of course Crete. The owners/builders of the museum have used every materials very efficiently recycled all the leftovers to create more and more sculptures. Anybody who will enter on those gates will surely be amazed.
Come earlier as you may want to stop at every single item. We spent with kids 3 hours there and feel it's barely enough. Though many things have either no description or translation from Greek. The museum keeps the back door which leads to the beach open afternoon, so you can use toilets, and take pictures of the beautiful buildings there.
Very interesting and informative. An excellent snapshot of Cretan life in the past. The member of staff was most helpful. Well worth a visit!
Quite an inspiring concept. This museum creates an appreciation for self reliance, harmony with nature, and family history. It is humble, but I felt enriched. Our kids enjoyed it very much. The staff are very warm and welcoming.
Excellent place. Great value 6 per adult. Local food and drink in the cafe too. English spoken very well, woman at kiosk asking of we spoke Gaelic, being from Scotland. Very handy for the beach too.
