We stopped here on out drive back to Athens from visting Delphi. It was a lovely stop for a quiet walk. There's a nice view of the gorge below from the chapel on top.

The ruins of the old castle, with beautiful panoramic view of the town.
The castle is not much to look at. We had a very nice picnic there. Nobody else was around. The hike from the parking is not far. The scenery is pleasant.
A beautiful place that combines history and nature in one magical entity.

Not worth the journey through the small town as there isn't much to see.
Το μεσαιωνικό κάστρο της Λιβαδειάς έχει μια ιστορία πολλών αιώνων. Οι πρώτες οχυρώσεις έγιναν επί Ιουστινιανού αυτοκράτορα. Στην πρώτη σταυροφορία οι Φράγκοι έχτισαν το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του και την τελική του μορφή την έδωσαν οι Καταλανοί που κατέλαβαν το κάστρο από τους Φράγκους. Κατά την ελληνική επανάσταση πολιορκείται από τους Τούρκους. Στο ίδιο σημείο γνωρίζουμε ότι υπήρξε και το Τροφωνιο μαντείο.
