Very cool location to explore. Think of it as one part historic site and one part nature walk. Wear comfy shoes. A cool marble road leads from the main road to some ruined buildings used by the former mining company and numerous trails leading to cave entrances. Enter at your own risk--no lifeguard on duty.

One of the most interesting places on Paros Island. Red marble rocks are great. Absolutely a must!

Interesting site to visit although there's not a whole lot left to see.

Fantastic historic place in beautiful natural surroundings. Some of the caves can be a little difficult to find without local knowledge, but the two main ones are fairly easy to find. If you want to explore the caves, you'll need a good flashlight and proper footwear. Also a guide is a good idea if you enter deeper into the caves as it's quite a labyrinth. To find further caves, you have to venture up the gravelpath to the right of the fire road. Here you'll first find the Cave of Pan and further up, another two other caves, which should definitely not be explored without a guide. Unfortunately much of the signage and information has gone missing over the years so Google is your guide on site

We visited the quarry on our way to Leykes village. I'm not sure how ancient the quarry is but there are some buildings around that definitely aren't from the ancient period. Most of the cool stuff is behind fences (the actual mine is not accessible (at least... Well, look a bit too the left) but it is a pretty cool to see some of the buildings around. Don't forget to buy something from the little shop (cash only) - the coasters are a good option.

For those of history and medocre athletic skill. About 150m walk on Parian marble ealkeay to dirt path to 2 of the mines. Major chip fields from antiquity easily available as you get to the first mine. Slick wet arble surfces inside but very worthy of a look. You can see the Parian marble easily inside. Especially on the floor. This is the precious marble used by the ancients for monuments in Athens and the region. Only recently has carara marble from italy (last 650 yrs) been a suitable replacement. But visit if you like the sparkle and beauty of this white stone.

Caves were great to superficially view without a guide but the real highlight was buying very well prices marble souvenirs from a sweet and jolly man who clearly loves what he does. 100% recommend stopping by the shop to see him! Best priced marble pieces you'll find on the island

Cave is pretty big and you really want a good flashlight for it to be worth it. The phone light is just enough to see where you are going but not enough to light up the space. It's pretty straightforward and you can't get lost in there. It's still pretty unnerving to be down there, recommend if you are into that sort of thing.
