A small one room museum plotting the evolutionary history of Crete through the fossil records. Interesting fossil remains of dwarf elephant and hippopotamus. Displays with commentary in Greek and English. Entry fee a nominal 3 Euro. Museum is in a former Mosque and is a beautiful building.

Spent over an hour here today. If you are a geology fan then this is the perfect place for you. Small and out of the way. Not crowded which helps in its appeal

This is a very interesting small museum regarding the geoligical and biological history of CRETE. Most interesting exhibits are local fosils of Pleistocene mammals (dwarf elephants, 7 species of deer) and one donated specimen of dwarf hippo of Cyprus. Several other marine fossils from Crete and abroad are also exhibited. The building of the museum is an important historical monument of Rethymno.
