AMURTEL Greece is an international grassroots organization managed by women specifically for the needs of women and children (greece.amurtel.org). Our focus in the current refugee population is twofold: 1. Infant protection and nutrition with a strong emphasis on breastfeeding 2. Midwifery care for pregnant and birthing women At our Center we offer: · Prenatal and postnatal exams by licensed midwives · Postpartum care of mother and infants · Infant feeding assessments for mothers with children under 2 years of age · Help for mothers to increase their milk supply and relactate if possible · Training course for refugee and migrant women to become breastfeeding peer counselors · Distribution of non-food items, e.g. diapers, baby kits, baby carriers, and underwear for women and supplemental food during pregnancy and lactation in order to help cover nutritional needs · Women’s support groups on topics such as breastfeeding, safe and hygienic formula feeding when necessary, introduction of solids to over 6 month old infants, many aspects of infant care, reproductive health and contraception, and preparation for birth.
