Extensive ancient site inhabited from 3000 B. C. to the end of the 7th c. A. D. Its' ruins are situated on three hills girdling coves with sandy beaches. The man who made the connection between Itanos city of the Mycenaean archives and the remains on the promontory was the Italian epigraphist Federico Halbherr. The French Archaeological School excavated for one season in 1899, then continued in 1950 and since 1994 assisted by the Institute of Mediterranean Studies and the local Archaeological Service. The project brought together the following Universities: Paris 1, Paris 8, Istituto Orientale di Napoli, Polytechnic School of Crete and Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
Unico nel suo genere. Posizione assolutamente affascinante Mare sottostante cristallino. Bellissima la basilica.
Klein, steinig - aber sehr ruhig
