Ionas Dragoumis was assassinated on July 31, 1920 by paramilitary groups in the center of Athens, in retaliation for the assassination attempt against Eleftherios Venizelos in Paris. A monument was erected at the scene of the murder to commemorate this brutal political assassination. It is a marble column four meters high.
