AMAZING church!!! So big that we wouldn't believe it if we wouldn't see it! Later, we've been told that it's the biggest church in Balcans!!! Unfortunately, by the time we went there was under repairs but still it was breath taking. There are some wonderful stairs through small gardens that lead to the monastery. It certainly worth a visit!!!

Very impressed even though there was some construction going on with the dome.

Saint Nektarios was a man of great virtue, wisdom and faith and an Orthodox monk and hierarch. He started this Orthodox monastery on the Aegyna (Eghina) Island in Greece at the beginning of the 20th century, so he is a recent saint..... Together with the nuns, he personally worked on building the initial church and rooms, he was a very industrious person. He was sanctified at mid-century XX, being widely known and appreciated by the believers for the healing gift his relics have. The beautiful small church that was built in his time is still serving. Now a big St. Nektarios cathedral is being finished, the outside is ready, but it still needs a part of the interior painting. The Aegyna Island is around 1h30' away from the Greek capital, Athens, and it is green, with amazing landscape and also famous for its pistacchios (in all shapes, from raw or roasted to butter and....liqueur!). St. Nektarios relics are in the old monastety church on Aegyna Island and in a tabernacle there in the yard, while a small part of relics are in Bucharest, Romania, at Radu Voda monastery.

An amazing Greek Orthodox Church with a huge dome. It has vitraux and a vast mosaic in front of the holy entrance. Next to the church there is the foundations have homonym monastery. The surrounding area is very green and beautiful. It is located in the middle of the island, not too far from the main port and the archaeological site of Aphaia.
