The Panhellenic Association of Professional Translation Graduates of the Ionian University (PEEMPIP) was founded in 2004 to raise awareness of translation in Greece. PEEMPIP also acts as an advocate for translation alumni of Ionian University’s Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting—the only university department in Greece that offers graduate programmes in professional translation and interpreting. Greek Presidential Decree 169 of 17 June 2002 (Official Gazette 156/2.72) recognizes these graduates as “official translators” authorized to produce official translations for public and private entities in Greece and abroad. PEEMPIP has been a regular member of FIT/IFT (Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs/International Federation of Translators) since 2011, and a member of the European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association (EULITA).
