Macedonian glory at its best. Such an amazing archeological site at Pieria. Definitely a must visit.

Ancient Archaeological Site of Dion !!!!! This terrific site just radiates with an electric mythical vibe that excellently accentuates the amazing archaic nature of this vast historic site. The surrounding area and the ruins combine to exude a phenomenal presence that is absolutely enchanting to explore. Make sure and stop by the Dion Archaeological Museum just up the road for maximum appreciation of the experience :)

A lot of remains of this ancient city cover quite a big area. Visitors need to allocate at least 2 hours in order to see all of it, but it's well worth it. There are two prts, divided by street, and a some of the sanctuaries are hidden by very rich bushes and trees, which makes this a very specific archaeological site. Ticket allows you to visit the museum which is located nearby.

I'm not a history buff, nor an archeology fan, so I had my doubts about this site and was close to skip it. Well, I came at 10 AM and left 4 hours later. This place is awesome! It's an abondened archeology site (so sad to see it halted like that when it's clear there are so many more secrets lying underneath waiting to be discovered) which offers you the chance of actually walking among most of the diggings and remains. It is also an ecological park, with wood, swaps and water. The park is split into 2 parts: the shrines/sanctuary one, which is where the entrance is, and the city part, across the road from the inside. The former is a nature beauty, relaxing for the mind but with very little interesting archeology to see. The latter (the city part) is the more interesting part and also the less shadowed. During the summer make sure you don't get to that part during the noon heat or too tired from walking around the other side of the park, since this part is well worth your time and effort. It takes some strolling around to get to some hidden gems, but all in all- you can't miss it and can't get lost. Yes, some signs are missing, some diggings are so neglacted you can't see what's underneath. But most of the signs exist and are very comprehensive (in Greek and English). The wild life you get to see is surprising. Bring a hat and a mosquito repellent! And once you're done, drive (2-3 minutes) or walk, to the Dion's archeological museum to see what was found in those ditches... A must visit, really. Especially for solo travelers, couples, groups, or families with very young children who don't yet get bored easily (unless you have a history buff kid, then it's a must). I enjoyed every minute of it and also learned a lot about the Roman and Greek history.

Very interesting place but during summer time is better visiting in during morning or late afternoon hours

Park was partly broken due flooding I suppose. Lots of nature and ancient rocks here and there. There were some waters running through the park and some bridges were broken. The staff was super friendly. Even the park was closed on Mondays we had change to visit it briefly. All in all it was a pleasant walk in nature with ancient ruins.
