Emfasis is the brainchild... ...of a team of Greek citizens living abroad who work hand in hand with social experts and volunteers, providing a humanitarian response to Greece’s dire needs during one of its worst socio-economic crisis in history. Emfasis addresses the holistic needs of all vulnerable and socially excluded groups who are or face a STREET situation (homelessness, loss of work, below the poverty line, in constant mobility, with unstable income and life circumstances. It applies the principles of Street Work as its main way of approaching and identifying such groups. Street Work is socio-educational work aiming at people who are socially vulnerable or socially excluded, in their environment (streets and neighbourhoods). Emfasis has 3 main divisions: StreetWork/ Mobile Support Units/ Social Support Corner HOW WE HELP: We get to know the neighbourhood We get to share with people their daily struggles and routines We see people at their environment, on their terms and conditions We become a direct listening medium that is confidential, voluntary and neutral We go to people who would not come to us – this is our major target We become part of the environment – available to those who need our support We restore the spirit of neighbourhood/social solidarity and contribute to improving the social well-being of the neighbourhood through our networks We provide a step-by-step empowerment journey in order to inspire independence and self sustain We provide special support to young families and youth
