The ancient theater of Pleuron (known also as Plevrona or Pleurona) is beautiful well preserved mid-size theater. It is located on a top of a hill, on the southwest side of the archeological site of ancient Pleuron, 5 km north to Mesolongi. The original city of Pleuron was destroyed in 234 BC and later on was subsequently rebuilt, under the name New Pleuron (Nea Pleurona), on a terrace at over 200 m altitude. The city was surrounded by a wall and had 7 gates and 31 towers and it is named by the local as the “Castle of Kyra (Lady) Rini”. According to the archeologists that excavated the site, the theater contained a total of 25 to 30 rows of seats (of which 15 are visible today). Bottom line, remarkable archeological site and highly recommended, with amazingly breathtaking panoramic view to west direction and to the area of Mesolongi at the south side. It is closed on Monday and holidays and the entrance fee is 2 for person.
