The Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics (LAT) belongs to the Energy Division of the Mechanical Engineering Department, in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Its educational and research activities cover the following fields: -Applied Thermodynamics and Combustion -Internal Combustion Engines and Emissions Control -Emissions Inventories and Forecasts -Energy Policy and Renewable Energy Sources The main focus of laboratory activities lies on applied as well as basic research, regarding exhaust emissions of Internal Combustion Engines. LAT possesses state-of-the-art equipment and know-how on both testing and simulation methodologies in the field of emissions characterization and after-treatment. LAT provides R&D services in the field of automobile exhaust emissions and after-treatment technology. Having a long tradition in this field, LAT possesses valuable experience in both testing and modelling methodologies to provide high quality services to its industrial partners. The testing services are supported by regularly updated equipment for the measurement and characterization of gaseous and particulate emissions, as well as fuel and fuel additive properties. The Laboratory was founded in 1974, as the Chair of Applied Thermodynamics of the Faculty of Engineering, in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1983 it was included in the Energy Division of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Professor K. N. Pattas was the Director of the Laboratory from 1975 until his retirement in 2001. Since 2001, LAT is directed by Professor Zissis Samaras. LAT facilities stretch over an area of 600m2 inside the Aristotle University Campus. 400m2 are occupied by laboratory facilities, while the remaining 200m2 are office areas. LAT is a member of Hellas Lab and associate member of EARPA (European Automotive Research Partners Association) and is also certified by QMS, as conforming to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
