Scaffolding shrink wrap has a number of advantages over traditional types of scaffold sheeting. First, because sections of scaffold shrink wrap are heat welded together, there are no gaps between sheets which makes it particularly effective for environmental containment (such as required during blasting and painting operations.) Secondly, after the scaffold shrink wrap it has been applied to the scaffolding structure, the shrink wrap is heat shrunk 'drum tight'​ using a hand held hot air gun. Because it is fitted drum tight it cannot flap and detach from the scaffolding structure and this makes it particular effective for installation in areas where high winds are expected and failure of the sheeting could have serious consequences.
