Interesting site in central Thessaloniki. Was closed to direct public access when we visited in late October 2020 (Covid) but still have good raised views from all four sides.

Unfortunately, it was closed when we got there but the site is breath taking knowing this is Roman Agora dating from around 1st century. It has Roman baths, theater that was supposedly used as a gladiator arena as well. There are some underground parts I’d love to see though :)
One of the most important places to visit in the Thessaloniki. Wonderful environment and beautiful museum with rich and great organization of sculptures and other exhibits. Very polite and helpful staff, logical price and basically wonderful experience.
I strongly recommend everyone in Thessaloniki to visit that part of the city. The main reasons for that are: 1) flee market, which takes the whole street just next to the Rime Forum (i personally dig out silver necklace and earrings in one of the shops) ; 2) The buildings are really LOVELY there and the atmosphere of the neighborhood gives you different perspective on the city of Thessaloniki; 3) The cafes exactly next to the Forum are popular among the locals and you’d be apart with typical tourist stuff as in the city center.
It may not look much and unfortunately not a lot of people go here, but it is a very big and nice museum. You have all the old Roman agora at your disposal to view and an underground museum as well (something that is not visible from the outside). For some reason when I visited there were no other people. I guess we tend to not appreciate what is at our fingertips
The Roman Forum of Thessaloniki is the ancient Roman-era forum of the city, located at the upper side of Aristotelous Square. It is a large two-terraced forum featuring two-storey stoas, dug up by accident in the 1960s. The forum complex also boasts two Roman baths,[2] one of which has been excavated while the other is buried underneath the city, and a small theater which was also used for gladiatorial games. Although the initial complex was not built in Roman times, it was largely refurbished in the 2nd century. It is believed that the forum and the theater continued to be used until at least the 6th century
Interesting archeology and museum. Do not miss the bulk of the museum. Its carefully hidden around a corner of the room you will initially enter. Nothing to tell you about it. Very Greek !
Just one big WOW! A large agora on 2 levels, with 2 ancient Roman baths, and small theater (odeon) used for gladiator fights. Main entrance to the Agora was on the north sode of the ancient Via Regia (Royal Road), which was flanked by a magnificent colonnade known ad the Stoa Idolon. Status were transpored to the Louvre in 1864. Recommend!
