Akrotiri, Greece

If you are visiting this as a destination in itself then you'll be sadly disappointed. The castle is at the summit of the hill in Akrotiri and is free to enter and open 24 hours. There is no onsite information about it and it is basically a jumble of rocks, building materials and a few walls, nothing to mark it out as in any way a 'castle'. There are nice views from the top though, it is lit up at night and it is only a few minutes walk from some nice restaurants. Apparently there was a lot more to the castle but it was badly damaged in an earthquake in the 1950's. It could be developed as an attraction but it's pretty much abandoned.

A little bit overpriced. Not the best ruins I've seen. It's billed as a Pompei equivalent. Not even close. Still, it was interesting and a great change of pace to the rest of the island.
Beautiful views! Small and you'll spend there 10 min but walk to this castle between lovely and tiny streets is additional attraction :)
Its a very pretty place, its calm one can walk there free of charge and at any hour the sight is superb one sees all the island!
The castle has been left to ruin, no attempt has been made to restore or maintain the castle which is a shame as it could be such a nice place to visit. Wouldn't say this is worth the drive to visit at all.
Watching sunset from this place...just dreamy. Calm and quiet, without many tourists.
Lovely small historic castle with beautiful views, definetly worth visiting
Not much left of the Castle, however you have a gorgeous view of the Caldera
