Archaeological site of particular interest located relatively close to the temples of Sounio. In ancient times the area was particularly important as it controlled the lead and silver mines. The theater is kept in a fairly good condition, having an elliptical shape and not a circular one. Access is free and really worth a visit in combination with the archeological site of the mines in Kamariza.

Magnificent location and ancient monument. Just beside the theater is an entrance to the ancient mine caves dated long before the Athens Golden Age and even a pre-historic settlement on top and around the hill above the theater. Many ancient ruins are laying around, like residential quarters, cemetery, a temple and an \industrial quarter\ supporting the ancient mines!..Entrance is free, and place is a hidden gem not very popular by tourists..

This site is worth visiting just for the view of lavrio and the sea. Especially during sunset it can be breathtaking, other than that there isn't much to see besides a stone theatre.

A good place to visit when combining it with visiting Lavrio.

The ancient theater of Thorikos is the oldest theater of Greece, and it is dated to the end of the Archaic era, between 525 and 480 B.C. This unique theater is located at the southeast side of the mainland, 12 km north to the remarkable Archaeological Site of Sounion and 3 km north of the ancient mining town of Lavrio. The theater had a capacity of 3,200 - 4,000 viewers and unlike the classical Greek theaters built in later eras, it has an elliptical shape rather than circular. The site is free of charge and it can be reached by walking up the cobbled path, about 250 meters from the parking lot on the main road. You would be able to sit on one of the ancient rock benches, enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view, sense the pastoral tranquility and feel like time has stopped to move!
