Usually locked. A nice place to stop for a day trip from Athens to the beaches at Skinia.

A few remains of Tempe of Dionysus. Word has it that this is the very auditorium where drama started. There is no amphitheatre visible and it is said that people were using the slope to attend events. The site has a few ancient ruins of stone thrones and carved stonework which had been used to build an orthodox church on top of the ancient ruins. To date the church has been dismantled. Most of the findings of the site have been moved to museums around the world, and a sort of remake of Dionysus throne marble enclosure has been made using the ancient stones found in the area. The site is normaly accessible during events.
This site is interesting but it looks abandoned.. We went on a Sunday and it was closed, no informations at all..
Not much to see in terms of ancient ruins as only the nave of the temple has been reconstructed but the fact that there was also a wooden Amphitheater here where Thespis, the father of theater, rehearsed his plays before taking them to the dionysos theater on the slope of the acropolis gives the place a feeling of importance.

This is a pretty important site, where tragedy was born. Not much to see unless you are a theatre buff though.
